PRESENTER - Dick Karnes, Master Model Railroader, National Model Railroad Association

Dick’s presentation acknowledges the differences between verbal thinkers and visual thinkers, and presents suggestions for both, including the notion of “plausibility”  and the use of prototype photographs. He”ll discuss how to apply these to kitbashing by means of examples of model bridges and buildings that both violate and embody these principles..

To familiarize American Flyer fans with the AF steam engine, diesel engine and rolling stock parts commonly used between the three. Remember when ordering parts for repairs you need to know exactly what you need. If you are not sure you need to bring the old part or item with you to match the right part.  When possible, the part number is a great help.

How to Prepare a Model for 3D Printing

Presenter - Douglas Miller, Miller Engineering and Design

This clinic will explore the exciting new technology of 3D printing.  Doug will explain how to design with the understanding of the limitations of a 3D printer and making design concessions that won’t sacrifice the project.  He will also review the right type of 3D printers for the job and how to position objects for the best printing results.  Doug uses his 3D printer for designing projects for his layout, and he will demonstrate the items he produced.  He will also discuss other ideas with 3D printing to enhance anyone’s layout.

Benchwork is the first step in creating the layout you’ve always wanted. Common sense tips and ideas are explored starting with planning the layout through installing roadbed and track.  Want to add grades and elevated sections to provide more operating interest?  You can do it Building benchwork is rewarding and easier than you may think. You can use inexpensive fixtures that you can make using simple hand and power tools.
